EDUCATION CONSULTANT: CURRICULAR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT
LEVEL 6 PEROMNES POST

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The incumbent will be responsible for:

  • Guide, advise, assist and empower faculties to integrate community engagement into academic curricula as an integral part of curriculum development for teaching and learning;
  • Promote best practices in teaching, learning, assessment, monitoring and program evaluation that involve community engagement;
  • Work with and in communities in collaboration with the Community Engagement Manager and partners using a community development paradigm;
  • Synchronize curricular community engagement activities and faculty projects to ensure integrated contact with the community;
  • Initiate (if necessary) and sit on committee structures to support curriculum community engagement in faculties;
  • Conduct research to keep abreast of trends and generate new knowledge;
  • Produce quarterly newsletters to promote community activities;
  • Representation of the University on SAHECEF.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Appropriate Masters Degree in Education, Community Development/Engagement or related field. (If the master’s degree is not in education, an appropriate degree or postgraduate certificate in higher education is essential);
  • At least eight years of higher education experience, including experience and exposure to:
    • Engagement of the curriculum community in higher education;
    • Work with local communities;
    • diversity management;
    • Curriculum development in higher education;
    • Coordinate and facilitate training interventions and provide support to academic staff;
    • Educational practice and educational technology.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIORAL ATTRIBUTES):

  • Project management skills;
  • Language mastery;
  • Negotiation techniques;
  • In-depth knowledge of community development theories and practices;
  • Overview of the functioning and structures of a faculty or other university unit.

The annual compensation package will be commensurate with the incumbent’s appointment level, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid plans and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
