MEC Education says it will be difficult to replace it with the current shortage of science teachers.

Makgoe says Mphosela has never produced less than 82% matrix results.

“We’re going to get some of our teachers and subject advisers to go over there and help. But, it’s not going to be easy. This is the point we want to make. Because you know that learners get used to a teacher bringing in a new teacher, they will need to learn their methodology, strategies, etc.

We believe that it will be necessary to go there to support them, and to interact with the learners. She used to get an average of over 80% as the principal says. I think she would be very happy to give it an average pass rate of 90%. I think that’s a commitment we would make to support the district school.

Grieving learners receive counselling. And the department says more support will be provided to the school ahead of the final exam.
