Highlands taps Commercial Director of Freeport Area as Director of Commercial Affairs

The Highlands School Board on Tuesday hired a director of business affairs for a five-year term.

Bradley Walker of Leechburg will be responsible for leading and managing the annual budget process, among other duties. A start date has not yet been determined.

Walker is currently the business office manager for the Freeport Area School District, where he was hired in August 2021 with an annual salary of $107,000.

At Highlands, Walker replaces longtime employee Lori Byron, who retired in August. His starting salary will be $130,000.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to join the Highlands administrative team to better serve the school district, the community and all constituents,” Walker said.

Previously, he served for four years as Business Manager and Human Resources Manager of the Leechburg Area School District and one year as Business Manager of AW Beattie and Lenape Tech under a shared services.

Walker earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Pittsburgh and a master’s degree in business administration from Robert Morris University.

The Highlands School Board hired Walker at a special meeting.

According to district officials, the role is to prepare financial reports for the council; advising Superintendent Monique Mawhinney on district financial matters; manage payroll functions; analyze and recommend periodic capital equipment requests; and manage transportation, facilities, and catering contracts, among other duties.

Walker will assist Mawhinney as Right to Know Officer.

He is eligible for salary increases of up to 3.5% each year.
