India has awakened from its slumber and is preparing to become a “great” power: Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday called on the people to participate in the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign with great enthusiasm to tell the world that India has “woken from its slumber”. He said the country was progressing rapidly under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was on its way to becoming a “great” power.

Addressing a gathering here during the ‘Tiranga Utsav’ event, organized to mark the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, he also claimed that a ‘Naya Bharat’ was being built under Modi’s leadership, in accordance to his vision since 2014.

“Since 2014, India’s stature has grown overseas, respect for the Indian flag has grown globally ever since. On any issue that arises in the world, as long as Prime Minister Modi did not make his statement, the world does not decide his thoughts on this,” Shah said.

The mega event was hosted by the Minister of Culture in the evening to celebrate the legacy of freedom fighter Pingali Venkayya who also designed the Indian flag.

Shah called on people, especially young people, to change their display image on social media platforms to tricolor from August 2, as urged by Prime Minister Modi, and to take selfies with the flag national during the “Har Ghar Tiranga” campaign from August 13 to 15, and upload it to its portal. By doing so, you would also pay homage to Venkayya who designed the country’s flag and to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for India, Shah told the large rally at the Indira Gandhi Stadium here.

“From August 13 to 15, wave flags in your homes with great enthusiasm to tell the world that India has risen from its slumber and is moving fast and is on its way to becoming great,” said the Minister of the Interior.

Shah also said “some people” were making comments about the tricolor event, but he will ignore them.

“I’m not here to make political comments because Tiranga is our ‘aan, baan aur shaan’,” he said.

Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy said in his speech that this August 13-15 celebration will not be a “sarkari festival”, but a “national festival”. The anthem video “Har Ghar Tiranga” features many personalities such as actor Amitabh Bachchan, sports legend Kapil Dev, cricketer Virat Kohli and playback singer Asha Bhonsle.

The musical evening also saw live performances by singers Kailash Kher and Harshdeep Kaur, and Kathak dancer Ragini Makkhar and her troupe.

The event also marked the 146th birthday of Venkayya, considered the designer of India’s national flag.
