Student Learning Advisor

Pauline joined the University’s Student Learning Services in 1994. She comes from a secondary education background, although she has worked in higher education in the United States and Scotland for the past 30 years. Past work in HE has included teaching geography, academic advising and support to minority students and returning adults, and general academic advising to students. Currently, her responsibilities as Student Learning Advisor at SLS include working with students across the university to improve their academic literacy and graduate readiness. This involves working with students one-on-one, teaching workshops across the university, as well as ‘Learning Strategies’ modules as part of the university’s access programme.

Pauline completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Counseling (University of Edinburgh, 1995), an MA in Urban Geography (University of Maryland, USA, 1990), a PGCE in Secondary Education (Geography and English) (University of Nottingham , 1985) and a BSc.(Hons) in Geography (University of Hull, 1984). She is currently a member of Scottish Higher Education Learning Developers (ScotHELD), the Association for Learning Development in Higher Education (ALDinHE) and Dyslexia Scotland.
