MSU Marching Band needs over $ 100,000 to travel to Frisco, Texas

BOZEMAN – The Spirit of the West Marching Band at Montana State University needs about $ 200,000 to get to Frisco, Texas.

The College of Arts and Architecture has already raised $ 75,000, thanks to donations from the Montana State University Alumni Foundation.

As the Cats prepare to play against North Dakota State University, part of the squad is still in the process of raising money to make the trip. For any football fan, a big part of what makes the game so special is the marching band, said Dr Royce Smith.

Dr. Royce Smith is the Dean of the College of Arts and Architecture and has a great admiration for the students of the group.

“The magic of being in front of this group of students, the effort, the joy and the enthusiasm they bring to playing their instruments. There really is no such thing, ”Smith said.

160 marching band members would like to travel to Texas, the cost for each member is approximately $ 1000 to travel.

“The magic of being in front of this group of students, the effort, the joy and the enthusiasm they bring to playing their instruments. There really is no such thing, ”Smith said.

“We’re really excited to be playing our part as the Spirit of the West Marching Band to play in this historic moment. It’s been almost 40 years since we’ve had a moment like this, and I’m really, really excited, ”Smith said.

Smith goes on to say that much of the energy and excitement during the game can be attributed to the group. The group’s goal is to get people out of their seats, get excited for a race, and provide entertainment along the way.

The Montana State University game is scheduled for Jan. 8, and donations are still in progress to fund the group.
