“Tough police” to eliminate crime: CM

LAHORE:

Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has ordered to take swift action to control the crime rate in Lahore at all costs and demanded a report in this regard within two weeks.

CM vowed that “strong policing” would be put in place to stamp out crime across the province.

The chief minister expressed the views while chairing a meeting at his office which was also attended by former federal minister Moonis Elahi and interior adviser Omar Sarfraz Cheema.

The CM noted that conscientious and diligent officers are always remembered with kind words. It was decided at the meeting to expand the forensic laboratory and its scope.

Pervaiz Elahi ordered the authorities to establish forensic laboratories in Multan and Rawalpindi, adding that DFID officials have given assurances for the expansion of the forensic laboratory and its improvement. It was decided at the meeting to redefine the functions of the dolphin police.

The CM also demanded a report on the dolphin police within two weeks and ordered the authorities to reorganize the force for better performance.

It was decided at the meeting to establish eight new police stations in Lahore. The CM ordered the officers to fill the shortage of police personnel in the police stations in Punjab including Lahore thereafter.

The CM expressed determination to meet the needs of the police forces to provide a peaceful environment for the people, adding that a significant decrease in the crime rate has occurred in the past due to the performance efficiency and commendable performance of duties by the patrolling police.

He denounced that the crime rate had increased due to the inactivation of police patrols during the tenure of Shehbaz Sharif and that this had increased unrest. He also acknowledged that traffic officers and police patrols had shown exemplary behavior, but were unfortunately subject to political bias.

CM Principal Secretary Muhammad Khan Bhatti, ACS (Home) Asadullah Khan, IGP Warden Kanwar Shahrukh, CCPO Lahore and other officers attended the meeting.

Earlier, Ibtisam Hasan, who caught the accused who shot PTI Chairman Imran Khan during the long march in Wazirabad, met the chief minister in his office. The CM saluted the bravery of Ibtisam Hasan and presented him with a check for 2.5 million rupees.

The CM declared Hasan to be the nation’s hero.

“The nation salutes the courage of Ibtisam Hasan,” he added. “You have accomplished a great feat in catching the suspect and we are proud of a brave young man like you. Your timely action saved a major accident,” he added.

Meanwhile, Pervaiz Elahi chaired a meeting at his office to review the upgrade of the Wazirabad Heart Institute (WIC).

The CM ordered to hire the services of expert doctors from abroad as well as the creation of a department for the treatment of children suffering from congenital heart disease.

“Complicated operations for children with heart conditions will also be performed so that they don’t have to travel to India for treatment,” he said.

He also approved a transport facility, adding that a hostel and residences should also be built for doctors. Similarly, the latest departments of Cardiology and Urology would also be established at Gujranwala University Hospital and Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Hospital respectively. Similarly, more dialysis machines would also be donated to Aziz Bhatti Shaheed Hospital.

The CM further spearheaded the development of the best waiting area for the participants and said that more and more trees should be planted on the hospital premises. “It is optimistic that a majestic mosque has been built with the support of philanthropists,” he concluded.
